Dubai Police has adopted a new 2040 vision for its General Department of Traffic, Gulf News reported. The operational strategy sets out plans to cut road crashes, modernise traffic management, and prepare the emirate for long-term transport challenges.
According to the report, the roadmap aligns directly with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. It supports Dubai Police's broader organisational goals of improving safety, security, and community wellbeing while encouraging technical innovation across public services.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, said the framework will serve as a guiding roadmap for upcoming traffic projects and safety initiatives. He noted that artificial intelligence and digital technologies will play a central role in helping officers identify potential hazards early, allowing police to intervene before risks develop into serious accidents.
Predictive Policing and Emerging Trends
The initiative also focuses on tracking emerging patterns in daily transit. By assessing changes across the road network, authorities plan to pinpoint operational priorities and build projects tailored to future traffic demands.
Colonel Omar Khalifa Balobaida Al Suwaidi, Acting Director of the Future Foresight Centre, explained that planning ahead involves far more than forecasting outcomes. He stated that Dubai Police must actively evaluate current conditions, monitor shifts in driver behaviour, and weigh potential opportunities against emerging risks.
According to Colonel Al Suwaidi, the Future Foresight Centre works directly with various police stations and internal departments to turn forward-looking concepts into everyday policing tools. The resulting data enables Dubai Police to plan for different operational scenarios and design preventative measures.
Beyond technological upgrades, the 2040 vision outlines plans to give young people an expanded role in shaping future safety and policing policies.
Several senior officials attended the formal endorsement of the strategy. Attendees included Brigadier Essam Ibrahim Al Awar, Deputy Director of the General Department of Traffic, and Lieutenant Colonel Dr Khalid Mohammad Al Mansouri, Acting Director of the Future Readiness Department.
