An electric scooter patrol from Naif Police Station arrested three theft suspects and recovered 190,000 dirhams within four minutes of receiving an emergency call, Dubai Police announced on Friday, 18 September.

The incident began when the Command-and-Control Centre at the force's General Department of Operations logged a theft report in the Naif district. Operations staff quickly circulated detailed descriptions of the three suspects to active field patrols across the surrounding neighbourhood.

An electric scooter patrol reached the scene within two minutes of the alert. Officers fanned out through the adjacent streets, located the suspects, and took all three into custody two minutes later. According to Dubai Police, officers found the full Dh190,000 intact in their possession.

Expert Brigadier Omar Mousa Ashour, Director of Naif Police Station, said the rapid arrest and cash recovery demonstrated the high readiness of local field teams. He explained that the station closely tracks response times and patrol deployment to preserve public safety across busy commercial centres and densely packed traditional markets.

Brigadier Ashour noted that two-wheeled electric transport provides an effective operational solution for crowded urban districts. The scooters allow officers to cut through heavy foot traffic and vehicle congestion. They also let teams navigate narrow alleyways that conventional police cruisers cannot easily access.

Mobility Patrols in Crowded Districts

For context: Dubai authorities have steadily expanded two-wheeled patrols to police busy pedestrian corridors and enforce road safety rules. In May, Dubai Police partnered with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to launch the Personal Mobility Monitoring Unit. That joint division was created to ensure bicycle and e-scooter riders adhere to helmet requirements, speed caps, and restrictions against tandem riding.

Dubai Police have since widened their deployment of electric scooters beyond traffic monitoring, using them as front-line patrol transport in older, tightly packed commercial neighbourhoods. Brigadier Ashour confirmed that Naif Police Station will continue refining its field operations to shorten emergency response times further.
