Aster DM Healthcare has agreed to acquire Dubai’s International Modern Hospital, subject to regulatory approvals. The proposed deal would add the 116-bed multi-specialty hospital in Al Mankhool to Aster’s UAE network.
What the Deal Would Add
International Modern Hospital has operated in Dubai since 2005. It has 116 beds and 39 outpatient clinics, according to Aster.
If approved, the transaction would increase Aster’s UAE hospital portfolio from 10 facilities to 11. The group currently operates 112 clinics and 310 pharmacies across the country, with 399 hospital beds already in its UAE network.
Aster said bringing the hospital into its network could give patients access to a broader range of specialists, referral pathways and digital healthcare services. The company also said the integration is intended to support more connected care for patients.
Dr. Sherbaz Bichu, chief executive of Aster Hospitals and Clinics in the UAE, Oman and Bahrain, said International Modern Hospital had built a strong reputation for healthcare delivery in Dubai. He said the integration would strengthen clinical capabilities and continuity of care.
Part of a Wider UAE Investment Plan
The acquisition forms part of Aster’s plan to invest more than Dh1 billion in the UAE over the next five years. The programme covers primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary healthcare services.
Aster said the investment reflects its confidence in the UAE healthcare sector. It also described the expansion as a response to rising demand for medical services and the need for stronger healthcare infrastructure.
“The addition of International Modern Hospital strengthens our presence in Dubai,” founder chairman Dr. Azad Moopen said. He added that the deal supports Aster’s aim of expanding access to healthcare through investment, innovation and partnerships.
Aster’s managing director and group chief executive for the GCC, Alisha Moopen, said the company aimed to enhance patient access and expand healthcare services by combining IMH’s capabilities with its wider network.
International Modern Hospital’s ownership said preserving the hospital’s legacy and service quality had been a priority. Aidroos Hassan Omar Alesayi said the ownership selected Aster for its regional presence, leadership and healthcare expertise.
Alesayi also said the investment would further enhance IMH’s operations and service quality while preserving its legacy. The partnership was linked to the objectives of the Dubai Social Agenda 33.
The transaction remains subject to regulatory approval. Until that process is completed, the hospital remains a proposed addition to Aster’s UAE portfolio rather than a completed acquisition.
