Dubai’s public transport network, shared mobility services and taxis carried about 348.1 million riders in the first half of 2026, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said on 2 August. That averages nearly 1.9 million trips a day between January and June.

Mattar Al Tayer, RTA director-general and chairman of the board of executive directors, said the figures show rising confidence in public transport among residents and visitors. Public transport’s share of all trips in Dubai has grown from 6% in 2006 to 22.3% in 2025. RTA’s target is 25% by 2030 under the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.

The Metro took the largest share at 39.2% of ridership, or 136.5 million riders across the Red and Green lines. Taxis followed at 25.5% (88.9 million rides). Public buses carried 24.4% (85.1 million trips). Together those three modes made up about 89% of journeys.

Shared mobility — app-based ride-hailing, hourly rentals and bus-on-demand — carried 25.7 million riders. The Dubai Tram carried 3.8 million, marine transport 8.1 million, and limousines 5.7 million. January was the busiest month, with 73.4 million riders; other months ranged between 49 million and 66 million.

BurJuman was the busiest interchange station, with 8.4 million riders over the six months. Union followed at 6.5 million. On the Red Line, Al Rigga led with 6.4 million, then Mall of the Emirates (5.2 million) and Business Bay (5 million). On the Green Line, Sharaf DG led with 4.9 million, followed by Baniyas Square (3.8 million) and Stadium (about 3.7 million).

Looking ahead, RTA is building the Blue Line (30 kilometres, 14 stations) and has approved the fully underground Gold Line (42 kilometres, 18 stations, estimated 34 billion dirhams). It is also deploying 637 new buses, including 40 electric buses, toward an all-electric and hydrogen fleet by 2050. Driverless taxis began operating at the start of 2026, with commercial air taxi services planned by year-end alongside work on the Dubai Loop project.

Metro, Tram, buses and RTA marine services share the Nol card. Taxis and app-based shared mobility are paid separately. Live schedules sit on RTA’s official app and website.
